Chip in to help Cy

In addition to all the awesome musical benefits, t-shirts, and music stores now there's another way to help with Cy's medical bills. As Spinal Tap sang: "gimme some muhnay (on the Internets)."

Click "Chip in" to donate, and click "copy" to get the widget for your own blog, MySpace, Facebook page or what have you. People can also give PayPal donations directly to cyrawlsfund@gmail.com or visit cyrawls.chipin.com to make your own fundraising widget.

I am now the self-appointed goddess of online fundraising for Cy and I'd love to hear any other suggestions y'all have about how to spread the word and raise as much money as we can.

Donations might not be displayed until we "verify"the PayPal account, but donations are still accepted. Just FYI in case you don't see the thermometer move to the right...

ruby, oops i made an editing comment and it reposted after you. could you repost so yours comes after mine. sorry about that.

also, kerry has direct links on the right side of the blog so it might be a good idea for you to add on of those for the online donations link so it stays on the main page as more and more comments are posted.

Thanks so much again for setting this all up!

Done. :-)

Note to Kerry (or whoever controls the sidebar): you can get a smaller widget that will fit better at http://cyrawls.chipin.com

We have received $375 so far! The widget won't start showing it until we get the account "verified" but that should be soon.

Thanks everyone and keep it coming!

Could a posting person post this? Thank you so much!

Let's Go Outback for Cy!
(I also came up with this one: "So Begins Our Wallaby")

ANYWAY, after "getting jiggy" with Birds of Avalon, Rosebuds and Superchunk Friday night, come out to a tasty and nutrient-rich buffet lunch at Outback Steakhouse at 3500 Mt. Moriah Road, Durham, by New Hope Commons, from noon-1, Saturday, Aug. 30. For $20, you get chicken AND steak, salad, mashed potatoes and a drink, with ALL PROCEEDS going to the cause. Eat in, or take out. Pay by cash or check (made out to Cy Rawls Benevolence Fund) at the door. There are only 50 spots for this event, so please RSVP through the Evite posted below.

Here's the link to RSVP:

You gotta eat, and you pretty much also got to keep on helping out Cy and family. Come on out! All props go to Bryan Harris, Outback manager, and his wife Jessica for arranging this lunch fund-raiser.

Thanks, Ruby, for pulling this together. I'll fix the widget ASAP. Thanks to Kathy as well. I'm adding this event to the Calendar. Kick ass, y'all!

Ruby et al -- in the embedded ChipIn code, change the URL from http://widget.chipin.com/widget/id/168304950a6d6bf7 to
http://www.chipin.com/widget/id/168304950a6d6bf7 (WWW instead of WIDGET) -- it seems to load the balance more consistently, and that constant $0 is too damn depressing.

Folks (especially those with generous, deep-pocketed friends) looking to embed the ChipIn widget on Facebook: Facebook is pretty restrictive with Flash elements. The best I could come up with is:

- Search for and add the application Flash Embed
- Click "Add a new animation to your profile"
- Hit [Add animation] after pasting in this code:

<object width="160" height="250">
<param name="movie" value="http://www.chipin.com/widget/id/168304950a6d6bf7"></param>
<param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><param name="event_title" value="Cy%27s%20Medical%20Bills"></param><param name="event_desc" value="%3Ca%20href%3D%22http%3A//cyrawls.blogspot.com/%22%3EMy%20friend%20Cy%3C/a%3E%20has%20a%20lot%20of%20cancer%20and%20not%20a%20lot%20of%20money.%20Please%20help%20out%20literally%20%3Ca%20href%3D%22http%3A//cyrawls.blogspot.com/%22%3Eone%20of%20the%20nicest%20guys%20ever%3C/a%3E."></param><param name="color_scheme" value="red"></param>
<embed src="http://www.chipin.com/widget/id/168304950a6d6bf7" flashVars="event_title=Cy%27s%20Medical%20Bills&event_desc=%3Ca%20href%3D%22http%3A//cyrawls.blogspot.com/%22%3EMy%20friend%20Cy%3C/a%3E%20has%20a%20lot%20of%20cancer%20and%20not%20a%20lot%20of%20money.%20Please%20help%20out%20literally%20%3Ca%20href%3D%22http%3A//cyrawls.blogspot.com/%22%3Eone%20of%20the%20nicest%20guys%20ever%3C/a%3E.&color_scheme=red" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowScriptAccess="always" wmode="transparent" width="160" height="250"></embed></object>

(You can customize the embed code at http://cyrawls.chipin.com/cys-medical-expenses. Before adding the code, I recommend replacing the two instances of "widget.chipin.com" in the code with "www.chipin.com")

- Give it a title, and you can TRY to add a 250x160 preview image (or whatever size you choose if you make your own widget code). I didn't have any luck, I think the app developer called that field in the wrong place in the source code.

- Hit "Save Changes." It should show up on your page now, although because of Facebook restrictions, it won't load automatically, one must click on a placeholder graphic to load the widget.

Hope it works.
